Little Red Dress was a hub of activity last Tuesday night as our lovely
VIP's enjoyed our second
styling evening for the year.
Amongst our wonderful shoppers was the talented Rachel from
Betty Li Hair and Beauty who propped her work station in our boutique for the night, offering beauty tips and cosmetic advice to the events attendees.
We had the pleasure of welcoming
Danielle Kallis, Stylist and creator of
'Style Department', to the store to treat our guests to a fabulous styling workshop packed with loads of fashion tips and all of the do's&don'ts for the coming season.
"With over 17 years experience in the fashion industry, Danielle's instinctive flair and irresistible enthusiasm have been sought out for key professional fashion stylist roles including Head Stylist for Westfield Chermside, Queensland Manager at Mercedes Fashion Week Sydney, Fashion Agency Director, and stylist on numerous national television productions and magazine shoots"- styledepartment.com.au
Danielle's Styling Tips:
1. The Low Slung Belt: most women create shape and curvature by wearing a waist belt. Danielle suggests giving a low slung belt a try with a maxi or unstructured dress for a relaxed, bohemian feel.
2. Dressing up & Down: starting with a focal point, that Danielle refereed to as the 'hero' of an outfit, which can be anything from a fabulous pop of colour on the lip, a contrasting belt or a statement dress, the transition from daywear to nightwear is easily achieved with a few simple changes. Trade in the cute sandals, sunglasses and sunhat with a clutch, heels and (her favourite addition) a chandelier earing and vulllaaaaa! You have transitioned your lunch date attire to the perfect cocktail-hour lounge wear.
3. Hemline: Danielle stressed the importance and impact that a slight adjustment to a hemline can make to an outfit. She volunteered that the most flattering skirt length cuts right at the knee for most shapes, as it shows just the right amount of leg.
4. Body Types: The oldest trick in the book for fashion styling is to dress for ones body type, and Danielle did not defy this golden rule. Noting that the biggest mistake most people make when it comes to "hiding their scary bits" is to wear shapeless or loose items. This in fact, in her opinion, extenuates even more what you are trying to hide. You are best to go with structure rather then flow.
5. Never Forget your Neutrals: Not just for summer, but all season round, Danielle highlighted the importance of neutral accessories in a girls wardrobe. Whether it be a tan handbag as an alternative to your classic black option, or a nude heel, these looks will not only stand the test of time, but freshen up an outfit that can be weighed down by darker options.
