The October Issue

Australia has one of the highest circulation of magazines in the entire world attributed, I think, to the incredible quality of our publications. Who said print media was dying? I don't care what they say, no blog, interactive website or Iphone app will ever take the place of a good glossy! This week Little Red Dress takes inspiration from the October cover shoots of our favourite fashion magazines.

Summers Top Ten Do's & Dont's

LADIES... You've seen them all before!
"TOP TEN ways to loose weight this summer!"

"FIVE easy steps to make the perfect hair wave!"

"SEVEN easy ways to wear the Little Black Dress!"

So why is there a TOP SOMETHING GUIDE to absolutely everything?...

Because nothing works better!

Little Red Dress' Top 10 Do's & Dont's for Summer!

1. DO- Opt for colour over black

Black is the perfect colour for winter mixed with a deeper colour palette and thicker fabrics, but when the sun has come out to play, so should your beautiful brights and patterns!

2. DO- Preference your light weight fabrics like cotton & viscose over heavy silks and woven materials!
Whilst they can create gorgeous textures and shapes, you will be thanking us in the Brisbane heat when you have re-thought that silk shirt for your afternoon event. No one likes a sweat patch!

3. DO- Work your statements back with a basic
It's not only a great way to keep the cost of an outfit down, but coordinating your basic items like a white tee or singlet with a more statement pant or maxi skirt is the best way to ensure its maximum impact!

4. DO- Remember the accessory!
Now that winter is gone we no longer have the luxury of layering our clothing items! So play around with your jewellery, a great pair of shades, a statement handbag or an eye catching summer scarf.

5. DO- Invest in new basics

Don't be afraid to get rid of the oldies that were your base pieces in winter! You want your whites to be bright white and your blacks not to be wooly! Basics are one of the most important ingredients to any great wardrobe, so why not treat yourself to a couple of new pieces this season.

6. DON'T- Mix winter items with summer pieces.

Stockings with a little summer dress, or a heavy jacket with a pair of denim shorts just doesn't make sense! Remember items like sunglasses or a great pair of sandals to "summer up" any items you're not sure about.
7. DON'T- Buy something just because its 'hot' this season.

The worst mistake a gal can make is dressing for trend and not for body type. There is usually a way to be able to work both but you must be mindful that not all looks work for all shapes and sizes.
8. DON'T- Overdress.

The nature of winter fashion seems a little more formal then summer styles, with the thicker fabrics, structured shapes and layered wearability. Summer is all about simplicity and less really can be more!
9. DON'T- forget your last summer purchases!

The chances you will be able to revamp an old favourite this season with something new is definitely high. We know its easy to forget what you have when you have packed it all away in winter.
 10. DON'T- Forget to spring clean!

A dreaded but necessary task! Set yourself aside an afternoon to complete mission: 'switch over the wardrobe'. Pack away the winter trackies and pyjamas and pull out the bathers and sun hats! You will be relieved how much space is freed up once all your winter items are stored away. There is nothing to make you feel more summery then a beautiful bright colour pallet and lovely light fabrics greeting you at your wardrobes door! You never know what could have gotten lost this winter.

Golden Rule: If ever in doubt pay the girls at Little Red Dress a visit to solve any summer wardrobe dilemma!

How To Guide: The T-Shirt

Photos: a) The Coveteur-http://tumblr.elle.com/page/2 b) Connor Doherty- http://www.conordohertyphoto.com/blog/

THE T-SHIRT

It's a staple for every season
It's a piece that will take you from day to night
It's the item you can fall asleep in, or wear with your most precious of jewels
It can be yours, your man's or your mums

Little Red Dress shows you how to make the most of this timeless and foolproof trend, by styling the classic 'T' into our five favourite categories

The Cropped T

Teamed with your favourite high waisted short or those slim fit jeans that make your legs go for days, a cropped style T is a summer must have. Eliminating fabric bunching when tucked in and cutting at the perfect waist height, the cropped t shows off your figure in the most wearable way! For a fresh daytime nautical look like Charlotte's, matching the white Staple top with the adorable blue pinstripe Woodford & Co jagger shorts, it takes but a few fun accessories like the Indy C straw fedora and taupe clutch to take her look from a lunch date to an evening drink.

The Printed T

The printed T is the best way to work a little rockstar into your outfit. This gorgeous Woodford & Co Eagle shirt, with its soft neutral colour palette can be teamed with almost anything! Put it with a panelled tube skirt and wedges like the stunning Lilya  detroit wedge above for an effortless but oh so trendy night time look. Tone it down with a comfortable and soft high waisted short such as the Wish mile short in the similar colour palette for more of a day to day outfit. And lets not forget the accessories! Whether you go the chunky option like the Adorne tortoiseshell chain to weigh down the T or something a little finer like the Samantha Wills orient express chain, the neckline of a T-shirt like this screams for a necklace!

The Knitted T

The knitted T is one of those items which can be worn over your bikini in the height of summer, or styled up a little more like Charlotte shows when teamed with a maxi (Bec&Bridge) or wide leg pants (Talulah) . With anything crochet its all about the layering! The sheer fabric, particularly in this gorgeous Lilya candelas knitted poncho style top, gives any outfit an edge of bohemian comfort. You will be thanking us when summer roles in because of how incredible cool and breezy this one is! Charlotte is also sporting the Samantha Wills romancing the stonenecklace (above) and the House of Harlow station necklace(below) in these shots.

The Boyfriend style T

Probably my favourite style, because of its ease and comfort, the 'boyfriend' style T describes any kind of oversized design. Cuffed, knotted, tucked or rolled- the boyfriend T gives you that instant "I just rolled out of bed and look how fabulous I am" glamour! Charlotte shows two ways to wear this Woodford& Co cruise  T-shirt: either with a statement pant (One Teaspoon vegas pistols) and heel or a fitted skirt (Alice McCall ladybird ) perfect for layering.

The Embellished T

The perfect marriage between easy to wear style and a little bling= The embellished T. Like this Wish orbit blouse that Charlotte wears with the Lucette silk cargos and then the Posh waisted skirt. This is the prime example of comfort meets glam! A T that wants to be taken out to clubs, but can also be toned down for a more "corporate chic" trend, it is an item that would not go unnoticed in your wardrobe!

All items used in this shoot are current in store pieces! Hit the website, or head into store to have your very own go at styling them up... We certainly had fun doing it!
