It’s no coincidence that Australian Fashion Week is held at this time of year…
The fact is spring time is the perfect breeding ground for fresh, innovative, creative, beautiful and inspiring fashions.
It may have been cold and raining outside this week, but the Brisbane Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival was celebrating Spring in full force. From the exciting new ideas and trends displayed at the Emerging Designers show Tuesday evening, featuring must-watch talents such as Edwina Sinclair for Soot (one of my favorites!) To the well established and pace setting events such as the Myer Luncheon, Wednesday, where the exclusive audience watched collections such as Sass and Bide and Leona Edmiston dance down the runway. Fashion and femininity is at its absolute best in this gorgeous season taking us from winter to summer, and nothing excites us more at Little Red Dress, then watching our very own in store labels flourish, sweeten and bloom like the flowers themselves!
My Spring Favourites
Talulah
Talulah has been a favourite of ours for a number of seasons now, always delivering the utmost feminine, wearable, flirty and on trend pieces. Designed by the incredibly talented Kelli Wharton, each of her collections whilst providing fresh and new ideas, has a very signature and consistent aesthetic. Her current range plays with both soft and structured silhouettes. We have a range of beautifully flowing baby doll dress and maxi skirts to then be teamed back with structured bodices and woven suedes. Her colour palette for spring consists of muted creamy and earthy tones seeing a lot of khaki, terracotta oranges, taupes and off whites working together. And lets not forget the striking prints and rainbow fabrics she has played with as seen in the dress in the image below.

Lilya
If there is one label that completely lends itself to the spring time through it's aesthetic, style and fabrics it would have to be Lilya. Lisa Chedanne's collective use of beautiful cottons and knits, lifted by the adorable florals, pastels and prints in her ranges are the reasons why Lilya is the essence of spring/summer. The most recent Lilya collection doesn't disappoint and is as effortless, simple, clean and easy to wear just as her previous seasons. Lilya understands a woman's desire to feel beautiful while being comfortable and each piece embodies this. Whether it be a crochet knit to throw over your bikini or a cotton pant and blouse for morning tea... this spring, Lilya has you covered!
Take a peak at her latest look book, with some styles we currently have in store!
Now If I had to choose my ABSOLUTE favourite label this season... Alice McCall definitely takes the cake! Even though she is a fairly new addition to Little Red Dress, she has certainly made her mark in store. The Sydney label has been described as- tender girlish charm and bohemian flare all mixed up with a bit of rock and roll (Alice McCall biography). Alice has a brilliant knack for playing with shapes, cut outs and structures and managers to make girls of a range of sizes and shapes look and feel fabulous. I am most drawn to her use of fabrics which always incorporate splashes of the most on trend colours in beautiful cottons, lace and silks. This spring she is really playing on contrasting textures and her most signature look: bold floral patterns. Wearing her pieces I feel a mixture between the 1950's housewife with her full skirts and structured bodices, and a preppy school girl with her flirty shirt dresses and high waisted shorts. This label is definitely for the younger ladies, or really just anyone who likes to express fun and vibrance in what they wear! Have a look at the recent publicity this now international designer is receiving...

When I think of spring I see...
buttercup, poppy, forget-me-not
these three bloomed in a garden spot
and once, all merry with song and play,
a little one heard three voices say:
"Shine and shadow, summer and spring,
O what the glimmering season shall bring!
